The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

The overall MFs for VGC are not very high. With the taxes factored in, I'd even say the annual dues are low, all things considered. So, the double tax wouldn't bother me more than paying the single tax at VDH. Of course, the single tax at VDH bothers me a lot. 🤣
Agreed—it is what it is. Not that big of a burden.

Circling back to taxes, they definitely skewed our thinking a bit when we bought into VDH. I wasn’t a fan of the ToT, but honestly, there wasn’t much choice if we wanted to own points in California. Once we accepted the reality of the ToT, we just had to be okay with it.

It does make me wonder—could the ToT actually lead to better availability? I think it might.

Before VDH, we had a couple of trips planned to California but couldn’t get the dates or rooms we wanted at VGC. So, we pivoted to WDW. Being from Texas—halfway between CA and FL—it was an easy switch. With VDH, we've made two trips easy peasy. Booking wasn't an issue.

Hoping availability won’t be as much of an issue going forward... once... more... rooms are declared!

Just stopping by to say we’re on Day 1 of our VDH adventure and loving it - so much so that I’m considering adding on a small direct contract.

I absolutely appreciate that its location may not be as ideal as CG but honestly as someone who flip flops 30k+ steps most days in WDW, the walk from VDH to the parks is NBD.

And thanks for all who shared recommendations - we’re already having an amazing stay!!

The rooms are beautiful, enjoy!

At first I was fiercely anti TOT and VDH initially. Like you said once I accepted it it’s not a huge deal. The trade off for lower point charts at times vs VGC helps accept it also. In addition to using discounted DGC which doesn’t feel like real money sometimes 🤣

Don’t get me wrong, I’d gladly take the VGC approach and tax rates but that just wasn’t in the cards with the city.

Which room type are you in?

Have fun!

Questions for those who have toured the villas...

1. Where do I go to ask about a tour?
2. What type of room do you get to see?
3. Do they do a tour of the entire grounds or just a room?
4. How long did the whole thing last?
5. After a tour, do they take you somewhere and try to do a hard sell on points?

We will be at VGC in December but I really want to see the new VDH villas in person. Our son won't really tolerate any kind of lengthy tour though. Also, we would NOT want to purchase any points at the end of the tour. We are just looking in case we decide to buy there in the future. Do we just tell them that flat out at the start?

I cant answer all questions since I haven't toured VDH. But I can say just tell them at the start you have a guide (even if you aren't committed to the guide) that should stop them from trying to sell you points. But with that said there are 2 types of tours ones that are for members just to check out new stuff and is a certain time every day, you will be in a group of people if anyone else shows up. Then there is where you book a tour w/ a guide and it's just you and the guide. For either one I would just say hey I may need to pop out if my son feels like he wants to leave.

When I toured Poly it was a long tour 30 minutes talking about the decor etc. When I toured RIV i was in and out in less 10 minutes. There isn't a lot to see at VDH so I would guess it would be shorter.

Also to add Im pretty sure it's a studio you tour and possibly a 1 bed. I know you cant tour the grand villa all the time. I remember because I tried to tour and didn't want to tour the rooms I had already stayed in.

There’s also model rooms up next to the DVC lounge in Disneyland. We waited like less than 5 mins for a guide to take us to take a look and there was no hard sale. But I prefer doing the tour at VDH. Looking out on the balcony from the 1 bedroom is so lovely. :).
I had no idea. They should really step up their advertising game and maybe they can sell some more VDH!

It's always bummed me out that there are no balconies in the studios (except garden view I think).

We stayed in a garden view Duo once and the balcony was as big as the room :)

Hahaha yes! The Duo is a strange animal. The bathroom space is too large (I would bet bigger than the standard studio) and the patio is huge, the room itself is tiny tiny. The pack n play for my granddaughter barely fit in the duo, I thought we were gonna have to put it on the patio!
