Looking at the terms for the Freedom Flex right now - we have Chase Sapphire, but with Chase's plans effective in October, for UR points to no longer have a 1.25 or 1.5 conversion rate in the Chase portal, this might make sense as a downgrade option. Having an additional 5% cashback card for warehouse clubs would definitely be useful.

If you ever end up deciding to add on a Costco membership you might want to actually downgrade to the Freedom not the FreedomFlex.
Costco only takes Visa so if the Freedom's do offer the 5% at warehouse clubs you will be shut out with the Flex (Mastercard) but not the Original Freedom (Visa) which you can only product change to.

Yesterday that offer popped up in my Facebook feed. I still have 2 months left on my BJ's membership so I hope they are offering it still in Sept. Last couple years I have switching e-mails to get the best deal. But it might be worth overlapping accounts for 2 months.

My BJs membership expired May 31st. I was going to renew but hoped to get a discount. Every offer I googled didn’t work. I read a tip to ask on the website chat & tried it this morning. I was offered $25 renewal, saving about $38 after tax from the normal $60+tax. There was a link in the chat to enter my payment in. I got an email confirmation & the new date shows in my account. Very happy!

For Q3 I will have 5 cards that earn 5% on gas (3 Freedom's + 2 Discovers) in addition to my Sam's Club card that is good year round.
My only hope is Meijer continues to all the 10% gift card deals at gas stations otherwise I won't come close to maxing out the 5% for this quarter.

Well done. Having a well thought out credit card strategy where you can get 5% cash back for DGC as well as everyday expenses like groceries, gas, utilities, etc. really pays off.

Thanks for sharing this! I used a new email and phone number (seems to be what works with Sam's Club) and immediately got a $10 off $10 coupon. The $15 membership almost paid for itself already

If you try to sign up within a short amount of time after expiration BJs will just reactivate your old membership as a renewal. And renewals aren't eligible for the deal.

To get the new deal, use a new email and create a new account. We've been doing that for a few years now.

If you have a Gmail account, using a period anywhere in your username is ignored by Google but creates a unique email for the account. (i.e miztressuz@ etc. is the same as miz.tressuz, miztress.uz, miz.tres.suz, or even m.i.z.t.r.e.s.s.u.z) This is helpful for companies that block the plus sign in email addresses, which may be BJs. I can't remember why I use the + with Sam's Club but the period with BJs. Also, you can setup email forwarding in Gmail if it's not an account you use often, that way your BJs emails can arrive in your main email if you don't already use Gmail regularly.

Also PSA for anyone signing up for new accounts with these coupon deals, they setup auto renewal on the account by default. Your membership expires the last day of the month i.e. 6/30/2026 but they charge the auto renewal fee on the first day of the month, 6/1/2026. So make sure you go into your membership settings at some point before the last month to turn off the auto renewal to avoid a surprise and hassle of a refund.

Mine also expired May 31. I used the chat on the website. Had to confirm my name & enter my membership number. Said my membership just expired & wondered if a discount was offered for renewal. The agent responded yes, they offer a $25 renewal rate. He put a link in the chat for me to enter my CC payment info. My renewal was that was going to be $65 (with taxes) went to $27 (with taxes). Took less than 5 minutes.

We've been BJs members for years and they mail us lots of little coupon booklets. Dh does most of the shopping so I don't pay much attention to them. I let my Discover card close last year due to inactivity. I applied for another one to get the 5% cash back at BJs but last weekend got hectic and I my $10 BJs coupon expired on June 15.

Still, I ordered 2-500 gift cards and 1-100 gift card, total value $1100. My BJs total was $1043.97. Another 5% off of that would be $52.20 cash back. My total out of pocket will be $991.77.
Total savings: $108.23. That's a 9.84% discount.
