I never understood why a studio would sleep more than a 1BR. Makes no sense.
I think it's because different families want different situations. A studio is for those who want to get as many bodies as possible into a less expensive (fewer points) space because they plan to be out in the parks from rope drop to close. Others enjoy and spend time in their accommodations. Those families want dedicated spaces for sleeping, gathering and eating. They have the option to upgrade to two or three bedrooms to keep the living room a living room.I never understood why a studio would sleep more than a 1BR. Makes no sense.

We never go for a studio. 1 br all the way. May not sleep as many but much more room. Not to mention Washer/dryer. 1br gives us space to spread out and not be on top of each other. I can go enjoy a mid afternoon nap and not be disturbed by others watching tv. Just much nicer IMNSHO.Just another reason why 1 bed are wildly overpriced. Studios sleep more
Precisely! We purchased to stay in a “vacation home” not a “Disney hostel”….
Us too.We never go for a studio. 1 br all the way. May not sleep as many but much more room. Not to mention Washer/dryer. 1br gives us space to spread out and not be on top of each other. I can go enjoy a mid afternoon nap and not be disturbed by others watching tv. Just much nicer IMNSHO.
I can't really understand it either, no matter how many times or how many ways it gets explained. My mind just refuses to understand.I never understood why a studio would sleep more than a 1BR. Makes no sense.

I really missed the kitchen on my last studio trip. It was rough. BUT. I am also a bit of a miser. So I will do a studio again. I might not want to, but I will!We never go for a studio. 1 br all the way. May not sleep as many but much more room. As it should be. One bedrooms have more than double the square footage of studios.More than double the points for a 1 bed vs studio is rough though.
So for me the cash to point value makes it hard to justify the 1br. Even though sq footage maybe justifies 2x the points, cash prices generally fall in the 1.5 x range which makes it hard for me to justify the 1br when calculating value or my points. I honestly feel like I’ll do studio or if I want the space 2br but would skip over 1br since always do the math of how little more it is to upgrade. For me the only reason to ever do 1br is to get into something at resort when studio and 2br not available. As it should be. One bedrooms have more than double the square footage of studios.
We made sure when we bought at BWV decades ago we would have enough points for a 1br. Its just not vacation if we had to share space with the kids. Having a kitchen was a big plus. Having laundry in the room means we can pack lighter. It is all the intangibles that don’t show up on a spreadsheet that makes a 1 br pretty special. Now with the DGKs in tow a 2 br is a must. But to each their own. Any DVC room is better than not going at all!!!So for me the cash to point value makes it hard to justify the 1br. Agreed - the 1BR is way more than just twice the space. I know not everyone wants to allocate enough points for a 1BR over a studio, but for us a 1BR stay is so much more relaxing, more spread out, has way more amenities, and ironically can be easier to book most times! We made sure when we bought at BWV decades ago we would have enough points for a 1br. The resort isn't for everyone, but the Fort Wilderness Cabins actually have 4 separate sleeping surfaces so more than any 1BRAdd poly tower to your list! Slept 5 very comfortably there
I think it is likely because the 1 bedrooms at BCV were not designed with the intent to have a fold out chair, and there wasn't enough floor space to unfold one. Remember OKW didn't have the sleeper chairs in the one bedrooms when it opened, but they had enough floor space that they were added during a refurbishment.I can't really understand it either, no matter how many times or how many ways it gets explained. The square footage is larger, usually almost double and there is a demand for space as well as sleeping capacity.I never understood why a studio would sleep more than a 1BR. Makes no sense.
I'll add to this that sometimes the people in the group may also want separate sleeping spaces, such as a family of 4, with 2 children of different sexes and ages. Studio works somewhat better for that than a one bedroom. A little girl maybe 7 years old may not want to sleep with an older male and vice versa.I think it's because different families want different situations. We purchased to stay in a vacation home in 2000 also. When my 3 children and a (kid) friend and myself were able to get a studio plus at Boardwalk, we did not consider ourselves to be in a hostel. Although the cost at the time was pretty close to what a hostel might cost today. We purchased to stay in a “vacation home” not a “Disney hostel”….
Of course it's much nicer and it's nice that you have the ability to spend on that. Why brag?We never go for a studio. 1 br all the way. May not sleep as many but much more room. Same as above.Us too.
My mind is up in age like yours and I can choose a one or two bedroom if I feel like it or pay cash if I feel like it. You are very fortunate in life. I guess.I can't really understand it either, no matter how many times or how many ways it gets explained. My mind just refuses to understand.
The initial studios slept 4 and then at some point they added the under TV bed to make it 5.
The location of the door in the lock off units…it’s in the living room and not near the entrance made it impossible to add that to the 1 bedrooms.
When I'm alone, I'm usually in a studio. I am also frugal with my points. Many times I've been tempted to buy many more and rent if not using but I don't need another job or income or to be so tied to WDW that I almost have to go, although I do love my trips. Now I can bank or borrow and easily get to over a thou if so desiring. Used my points? Stay somewhere else fabulous.I really missed the kitchen on my last studio trip. It was rough. BUT. I am also a bit of a miser. So I will do a studio again. I might not want to, but I will!
Agree mostly. So for me the cash to point value makes it hard to justify the 1br. Another very fortunate soul. All the resorts have a laundry area for anyone who needs them. A note about that - on my times in a one bedroom at BWV, specifically, I've never been able to get my clothes dry in that stacked dryer. I've had to give up and take them down to the laundry room supposedly meant for studio use.We made sure when we bought at BWV decades ago we would have enough points for a 1br. Its just not vacation if we had to share space with the kids. Having a kitchen was a big plus. Having laundry in the room means we can pack lighter. The 5th person in a studio at beach club is with the caveat you have to provide your on sleeping space they do not provide one. I would never do 5 in any studio frankly I'd rather not go.

Yes, they do. Stayed last December after my BWV studio to try out the new digs. Having stayed in the old space, I found it lovely. I do find the bedroom a little too comfy and while getting out of the double bed and bending to get my shoe (or something), I then boinked my head on the upper bunk. I was alone in the room so good thing I didn't get knocked out.The resort isn't for everyone, but the Fort Wilderness Cabins actually have 4 separate sleeping surfaces so more than any 1BR
Same with Hilton Head Resort.I think it is likely because the 1 bedrooms at BCV were not designed with the intent to have a fold out chair, and there wasn't enough floor space to unfold one.
