I think it's because different families want different situations. A studio is for those who want to get as many bodies as possible into a less expensive (fewer points) space because they plan to be out in the parks from rope drop to close. Others enjoy and spend time in their accommodations. Those families want dedicated spaces for sleeping, gathering and eating. They have the option to upgrade to two or three bedrooms to keep the living room a living room.

I can't really understand it either, no matter how many times or how many ways it gets explained. My mind just refuses to understand.

The initial studios slept 4 and then at some point they added the under TV bed to make it 5.

The location of the door in the lock off units…it’s in the living room and not near the entrance made it impossible to add that to the 1 bedrooms.

I really missed the kitchen on my last studio trip. It was rough. BUT. I am also a bit of a miser. So I will do a studio again. I might not want to, but I will!

So for me the cash to point value makes it hard to justify the 1br. Even though sq footage maybe justifies 2x the points, cash prices generally fall in the 1.5 x range which makes it hard for me to justify the 1br when calculating value or my points. I honestly feel like I’ll do studio or if I want the space 2br but would skip over 1br since always do the math of how little more it is to upgrade. For me the only reason to ever do 1br is to get into something at resort when studio and 2br not available.

We made sure when we bought at BWV decades ago we would have enough points for a 1br. Its just not vacation if we had to share space with the kids. Having a kitchen was a big plus. Having laundry in the room means we can pack lighter. It is all the intangibles that don’t show up on a spreadsheet that makes a 1 br pretty special. Now with the DGKs in tow a 2 br is a must. But to each their own. Any DVC room is better than not going at all!!!
